Is alcohol-free beer keto-friendly?
Not automatically, and this catches people out. Regular beer is often avoided on keto because of the carbs from malted barley, not just the alcohol - and removing the alcohol does not remove those carbs.
In fact, some alcohol-free beers end up with a similar or even higher carb count than their alcoholic counterpart, because sugar or extra malt is sometimes added back in to compensate for the flavour lost during dealcoholisation. There is no shortcut here - you need to check the carbohydrate figure on the nutrition panel for the specific product, not assume "alcohol-free" implies "low carb."
If you are strictly counting carbs, look for brands that explicitly market a low-carb or keto-friendly alcohol-free beer, since those are formulated with that constraint in mind - a generic "0.0%" label alone does not tell you enough.
