Privacy Policy

Who we are

HonestAF is run by Tom Hall, trading as HonestAF. For anything relating to this policy or your data, contact hello@honestaf.co. A full business address is available on request.

What we collect

  • Account details. We use Google Sign-In only — no separate HonestAF password. Google shares your name, email address, and profile photo with us when you sign in.
  • Your profile. A username you choose, and a reviewer context (sober, cutting down, pregnant, driver, or just curious) — this is what makes reviews on this site useful, since it tells other readers whose taste they're weighing up.
  • Content you post. Reviews, ratings, helpful votes, tips given to other reviewers (a thank-you feature — no money changes hands), and any product, venue, or price submissions.
  • Photos you upload. Drink photos, venue photos, or a profile picture, if you choose to add one.
  • Location, if you use it. "AF Near Me" can find venues near you either from a UK postcode you type in, or your device's location if you allow it in your browser. This is only used to sort search results by distance — we don't store it against your account.
  • Your email, if you join the waitlist. Just to let you know when HonestAF goes live.
  • Basic technical data. Standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) generated automatically by any website, and analytics cookies if you accept them — see Cookies below.

A note on reviewer context

One of the options — "pregnant" — is the kind of detail that gets extra protection under UK data protection law. You're never required to pick that specific option; it's one of five self-selected tags, entirely your choice, and it's only shown because it's genuinely useful context for other readers. You can change your reviewer context anytime from your profile settings. Reviews you've already published keep the context they were written under, since that's what makes them meaningful to whoever's reading them later.

Why we use your data

To run your account and let you post reviews, votes, and tips (necessary to provide the service you've signed up for); to keep the site secure and working properly (our legitimate interest in running a functioning website); and, for anything not covered by those two, only with your consent — like analytics cookies.

Cookies

We use one essential cookie to keep you signed in and to protect the site against a common type of attack — this can't be switched off, since the site won't work without it.

We also use Google Analytics to see, in aggregate, how people use the site — but only if you say yes to that in the cookie banner. You can change your mind at any time by clearing your browser's site data for honestaf.co, which will show the banner again.

Who we share it with

We don't sell your data. We use a small number of services to run the site:

  • Google — for sign-in, and for analytics if you've consented to it.
  • postcodes.io — a free, open UK postcode lookup service, used only to turn a postcode you enter into a map location for "AF Near Me". No account data is sent, just the postcode.
  • Hostinger — our hosting provider, who store the site's database.
  • Resend — sends transactional emails on our behalf (e.g. verifying your email address).

Google is based in the US. Where your data is transferred there (sign-in, and analytics if you consent), Google's own standard contractual safeguards apply — see Google's Privacy Policy for details.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we'll remove your personal data within 30 days, except anything we're required to keep for legal reasons. Waitlist emails are kept only until we've sent our launch notification, or until you ask us to remove yours sooner. Server logs are kept briefly for security purposes and cleared on a rolling basis.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR, you can ask us to: show you what we hold on you, correct anything inaccurate, delete your data, restrict or object to how we use it, or hand you a portable copy of it. Email hello@honestaf.co for any of this. If you're not happy with how we've handled it, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

Age

HonestAF reviews alcohol-free versions of alcoholic drinks and isn't intended for anyone under 18 — you'll have confirmed this already at the entrance gate. We don't knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in any meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
