Can recovering alcoholics drink alcohol-free beer?

This is genuinely personal, and we are not going to pretend there is one right answer for everyone - there is not a single official UK body that has issued a blanket ruling either way.

What addiction specialists consistently point to is that the trace alcohol content itself is not the main concern - it is pharmacologically negligible. The real risk people talk about is psychological, not chemical: the taste, smell, fizz and ritual of a beer-shaped drink can act as a trigger, especially early in recovery, even though the drink itself contains next to no alcohol.

How much that matters varies enormously person to person. Some people in long-term recovery drink 0.0% beer without issue and find it genuinely useful for social situations. Others find it keeps old habits and cravings alive and avoid it entirely. If you are in recovery and considering it, this is exactly the kind of thing worth raising with your sponsor, support group or specialist rather than deciding alone - and it is a completely reasonable thing to say no to, whatever anyone else does.
